Even as Covid wreaks havoc in the general economy, PremPlus continues to invest in the latest digital technology so that we can further enhance and improve our service to the hard-pressed dental profession.

Photographs below show PremPlus’s latest 3Shape E1 scanner in action.

We have been busy testing all its capabilities, below you can see the results achieved by one of our digital technicians testing-out the scanner’s capabilites to create a virtual model from a scan of a dental impression, comparing a traditional cast model taken from the impression with the virtual model created by scan of the same impression. The technican has trimmed some of the peripheral impression material in order to improve the scanning efficiency.

As can be seen the results of really impressive, but there is some slight loss of accuracy at the tips of some of incisors which would be rectifiable by the technician.

On the plus side the virtual model is not suseptible to expansion and shrinkage which occurs with traditional plaster which can cause distortion in the cast model.

The next stage in our commisioning of this scanner is that we will be making Essix retainers using both the 3D printed model and plaster model in orer to their check comparitive fit by seeing how well the Essix made from the printed model fits on the cast model and vice versa, as well as the subject actually trying-on both of the retainers in the mouth.

We will also be looking at how far using a scanning spray could improve the scanning result.
